September 2008Dear Friends,I am sure that Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, must be relieved to hang up his mitre as he says goodbye to the last member of the Lambeth Conference. It has not been the easiest conference for him and I think that we should all remember him in our thoughts and prayers. He has a virtually impossible job to do holding all the factions together. What would Jesus’s answer be? Perhaps it would be, ‘Love One Another.’ You may say that’s too easy. It has always been the case that in the Anglican Church we have sat lightly to our differences and on the whole have been tolerant of each other. In fact tolerance has been one of the hallmarks of Anglicanism almost to a fault. The practical outcome of the divine injunction to love is a greater tolerance of each other, warts and all, and a belief in a long suffering God who is forgiving of our follies and our misguided opinions. May this Anglican characteristic influence all our thinking? It is better to err on the side of good will and charity. We have had some production problems this year with the Herald, but we seem to be coming to terms with them. It may mean that we have to buy a new printer. We have had the old one quite a few years and it's worked a good deal each month. It is a big outlay, but divided between the two parishes, it is not that much. I hope that it will make a real difference. Best wishes, Geoffrey Churchyards Wolverley Churchyard is accessible at all times Cookley Churchyard is open from 9.00am to 6.00pm (Summer) and 9.00am to 4.00pm (Winter)
